Dr. Jones Haug, a sociologist, draws on ethnographic and survey methodologies to study democracy and citizenship. She particularly examines the role of the Supreme Court in litigating on issues of race in the context of higher education.

Her current research investigates how the shift from affirmative action to diversity in higher education spaces has created the burden of what she calls “diversity-work” from Black students and other marginalized students in racialized organizations like colleges and universities.

Her research agenda centers around what she terms “racial incorporation:” how Black individuals have gained access to majority society over time in light of attempts to limit access. She is also working on a project involving collecting biometric data on the health consequences on individuals demanded to do diversity-work.

Jones Haug earned her Ph.D. from the Department of Sociology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She previously completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Columbia Teachers College and the University of Kentucky. She earned her undergraduate degree from Yale University.
